I agree with everything there and I will add this:
Davis and TK may not have gotten along at first but if you realise in the last battle with MaloMyotismon all the Digidestined stuck together and they were all friends. Sure their friendship isnt seen to be as strong as the originals but to me Davis and TK remind me of Tai and Matt over Sora they're friends that fell for the same girl big deal people get over it.

Hmmm..... quite true! Though Davis puts up more of a fight. At least we know Kari officially rejects him in that CD drama.

There is another kind of bashing that is used a lot mostly by Davis' fans. It is the kind of having the others talking bad about Davis behind his back without realizing Davis did listened all when he arrived but could hear everything from outside the room the others were in, usually the computer lab. Then Davis quits the team and goes solo or meets new friends and unlocks a new power usually miracles that makes him the most powerful digidestined, the others realize their mistake and apology, Kari falls in love with Davis and sometimes Gatomon falls for Veemon as well. This type I am sure as hell inspired by Naruto fics~ if you are naruto reader too just read fics on 'COOL Naruto' comunity of ff.net there is plenty that exactly use this kind of plot. But it the gang usually replaced by team 7 or Ino and Sakura. Seriously they shouldn't take jokes among digidestined gang too seriously. Sad to say this but Davis character was meant to be treated in that way as comic relief...

I feel that if the character is well developed and interesting there is no reason to bash them.
It depresses me though when the 'bashers' write more in character than the fans. One of my favourite Pokemon characters Shinji seems to get nothing but that. I once praised a fic for having him vagually in character in a romantic situation. It was a really crap fic and I resent it but there's so much crap out there... On a digimon front, I don't think that any of the characters have it that bad since the haters are at least more creative... until they find an idea they like and stick to it. The worse thing is when they get praised for bashing (yeah, that does happen) as that seems to make them into arrogent stuck up fools and the writing becomes worse so when the flames come they are worse so the writers start to get stropy and a flame war is born.
Now, I feel even worse about giving that fic a compliment... would be tempted to go back if I could remember what it was called.
Anyway, mini-rant over, I feel that it's more important to write in character than to avoid bashing and to show the character's full development as much as possible.

I still find Davis's "Character" to be comical relief and thus I act him that way(if at all) but I don't bash in fics... just here

Let's be honest guys, with all what Toei did to Davis in the series, it is really hard not have him on the fics doing comical things. I mean in the series he had a lot of comic things, just the way he got envious at TK was comical, then on one episode he got late to the computer lab because he was on detention for breaking a window with a soccer ball (I do remember that he got out of a classroom while bowing and apologizing to the teacher), then how he tried to impress Kari, then we have the basketball game where he tripped and then he got the ball in the face, then when waiting for him to go and meet with Izzy to talk about the dna digivolution he said he got late because he crashed on a tree (jap version), heck even his own sister slapped him o.o
Add to that, how he crashed on that big sign on the movie of Willis and crashed on a bus stop post on Diaboromon's Revenge (Diaboromon Strikes Back in Japan), it is obvious why he is portrayed in fics as the comic relief, I mean if Toei portrayed him like that what can we do? It is part of Davis' identity, how he is carefree, funny and doesn't has anything to worry about, he is happy with his life, so why take that away and turn him into someone all serious like in most pro Davis fics happen just so the others see him in a new light? I'm sure they love and respect him for who he is, he doesn't needs to be something he isn't o.o
Now, last night while browsing the net I came across an old entry in livejournal, this entry dates from 2005, the author talks about his hatred towards Takari and on the way towards TK for how I saw it, but this part of his entry got my attention.
If you ask me I'm glad Takeru is a fictional character or else he would have tried to track that guy and give him a piece of his mind o.o
I mean that was almost like rubbing salt in a wound, Jun never babied Davis because she really didn't gave much a d**n about him excusing the word, in episode 7 she only covered Davis with her parents because she was getting a date with Matt or else she wouldn't have done it.
Now how that guy expected that Matt wouldn't overprotect TK when TK was just 8 years old in the first adventure? It was natural Matt had to protect his brother even though by the dark masters saga TK showed he can take care of himself perfectly, also you don't see anyone complaining about how Tai overprotected Kari.
Now about the family under the same roof, what's to admire on Davis' family? true he has his parents and sister under the same roof but you just saw Ken's expression at how Davis' parents reacted when they saw who he was. Personally I rather have normal (?) Parents divorced than a set of crazy parents and hearing my father telling my friend to "tutor my idiot son" like Davis' dad told Ken in the japanese version o.o
Also TK parents may be divorced but they care about their sons, I dare to say they have some regret of had divorced, I mean in 01 during the battle with Apocalymon, TK and Matt's parents were holding each other's hand, I dare to say they still had some love for each other left there ^^
In short that statement that guy said about TK doesn't counts much in my book, if TK would admire Davis about something that would be about his tenacity and how he never gives up, now those are things to admire ^^

Well I prefer him to put a bit jealous in term of having parents in the same roof rather than admire Daisuke because of that, that's a VERY NORMAL reaction. But then again Takeru is a very positive person, yeah I am sure he still hoping his family reunion but not forcing that hope. He from all people know what the meaning of hope. About Daisuke... I am sure he is admirable like his fans said but not to the point he is Godly like some of them portrayed, he is fine and good just the way he is... His fans should realize WHY they love him in the first place, isn't it because of his character? Daisuke who is the center of attention because he is brash and funny... hard worker (especially in trying to impress Hikari) sociable... and very sincere. If there is another crest that can be given to him I will give him crest of sincerity!
About how over-protective Yamato was, that's very normal if he did! You know Jun and Daisuke kind of remind me about me and my brother... even though we never bickering like them. And my age gap also same with Yamato and Takeru's... in the middle of nowhere like Digital world plus so many monster, and the first hour we already get chased by giant bug and fell from a high cliff... there is no sibling on their right mind will not become protective of their younger sibling especially one with background like Yamato and Takeru. Not to mention Hikari and Takeru always get targeted first... Yamato and Taichi are bound to be more overprotective of them. And the prophecies from ep 38 more or less hinted actually Vamdemon ALSO targeted Takeru, either he knew Takeru also hole the key to kill him or Vamdemon think of him as risky target but Hikari that time was totally defenseless without digimon, crest~

Character bashing isn't really a good thing. It's best to keep the characters as close to well character as possible. Otherwise, it takes away from the whole of the story.
